An IP PBX is a private branch exchange is a telephone switching system that switches calls between VoIP users on local lines. It can also switch calls between VoIP user and traditional telephone user. It is a unified communication system or a business phone system which act as a central switching system for phone calls within a business.

The IP/ PBX includes a VoIP Gateway which has the directory of all phones/users and their corresponding SIP address and thus it helps in connecting an internal call or route the external call via VoIP gateway to destination.
